Trips planned by Robin · San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina

4 Days in Bariloche: Lakes, Food & Patagonia.

Four days in Bariloche covers the whole postcard: Cerro Campanario's chairlift panorama and the alpine stone of the Centro Cívico, a full Circuito Chico day ending at Cerro Llao Llao's three-lake lookout, the drive up Ruta 231 to Villa La Angostura and its cinnamon-barked arrayán forest, and a last day between Cerro Catedral's ridgelines and a sunset ride up Cerro Otto. It is lake-district Patagonia at a human pace, with bife de chorizo, lamb and hot chocolate holding the evenings together.

Bucket-list foods in San Carlos de Bariloche

Bife de chorizo

Argentina's sirloin cut, seared over coals; in Bariloche it comes with a lake-town calm the Buenos Aires parrillas can't offer.

On this trip: El Boliche de Alberto, day 1 dinner, the cut locals swear by

Patagonian lamb

Cordero patagónico, slow-roasted over fire, the dish this region hangs its hat on.

On this trip: Alto el Fuego, day 3 dinner

Bariloche hot chocolate

The town is Argentina's chocolate capital, a legacy of its alpine settlers; the thick cup is the ritual.

On this trip: Rapa Nui, day 4, with empanadas before the Cerro Otto sunset

Lake trout

Trucha from the surrounding lakes, grilled or smoked, the lighter side of Patagonian cooking.

On this trip: A trout sandwich at Puerto Manzano on day 3, and Brava for the farewell dinner

Before you go

Do you need a car in Bariloche?

For this plan, yes. The Circuito Chico can be done by bus with patience, but day 3's run up Ruta 231 to Villa La Angostura and the flexibility to chase light on the viewpoints make a rental the honest answer.

What must be booked ahead?

Dinner at Tarquino, ideally a couple of days out. The Bosque de Arrayanes catamaran from Villa La Angostura sells same-day tickets at the pier; just confirm the sailing times when you arrive, since they shift with the season.

How do you get in from the airport?

Bariloche's airport sits east of town, about 25 minutes' drive from the Centro Cívico. Pick up the rental there; day 1's chairlift is another 15 minutes past the center along Avenida Bustillo.

Is four days enough for Bariloche?

For the lakes, the classic viewpoints and one Villa La Angostura day, yes. A fifth day opens the full Ruta de los Siete Lagos to San Martín de los Andes, or a proper refugio hike; both are the region at its deepest.

Is November a good time?

It is late spring: mild days, green shores, snow still dusting the high ridges and far fewer visitors than January. Pack a wind layer; the lake breeze has opinions in every season.

5–7 days

Have 5–7 days?

First, drive the Siete Lagos end to end

Day 3 already gives you the first stretch of Ruta 231; with more time, continue the full Ruta de los Siete Lagos to San Martín de los Andes and overnight there instead of doubling back.

Add a refugio day-hike

Walk up to Refugio Frey beneath Catedral's granite spires, the lake district's classic day hike, and give your legs the day they have been asking for.

Cross the lake to Isla Victoria

Take the boat from Puerto Pañuelo across Nahuel Huapi to Isla Victoria's forests and viewpoints, turning the lake itself into the day's destination.
